Kenya is one of the most sophisticated producers of great quality coffee. The region itself is close to Mt. Kenya, which provides a very unique climate for the growing of coffee. The region enjoys two rainy seasons, which leads to two harvests per year, although the later one produces poorer quality beans. The rich volcanic soil of Mt. Kenya and the humid climate produce beautiful coffee, which are famed for their acidity and complexity.
This coffee is sourced from a number of small holders who process their crops at various washing stations in the region. The coffees are carefully selected by the importer and blended to achieve the profile that VALCAFE was aiming for. Indeed, it can be said that this coffee does not hail from one single washing station but from a collection of stations and thus the label Zahabu, which means “gold” in Swahili, is a label of quality, rather than origin.
